Janashakthi Insurance continued its sponsorship of Battle of the North for the 3rd consecutive year between St. Johns College Jaffna and Jaffna Central College. The centenary encounter between 2 prestigious schools in the country played at Jaffna Central College grounds from 9th to 11th March 2006 drew a very large gathering both local as well as past students residing overseas |

The match, which was continuously interrupted by rain on all 3 days ended in draw. St. Johns won the toss and put Jaffna Central in to bat who made 219 and were all out. Dilan made 54 not out whilst T. Niruban of St. John's picked up a haul 5 wickets. |

In reply St. Johns declared 258 for 8 and the highlight of the innings was the partnership between T. Niruban and G. Sanjeevan who put on a match saving partnership of 181for the 7th wicket. Niruban was bowled for 97 and Sanjeevan scored 84. |

Jaffna Central in their second innings scored 121 for 4 at close of play with T. Niruban taking 3 wickets and his all round performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
