Janashakthi renovates Hatton Children’s Park to celebrate Int. Children’s Day

Colombo. Thursday 29 October 2009. As part of its contribution to International Children’s Day celebrations in Sri Lanka, Janashakthi Insurance PLC recently completely renovated the Municipal Children’s Park in the Hatton town. JIC also installed new play equipment for the use of the children of the area.

Present at the opening were Deputy Chairman of JIC Mr. C.T.A Schaffter, Chairman Hatton Dick-Oya Urban Council Dr. Allagamuthu Nanda Kumar and several Councillors.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Schaffter said that Janashakthi was happy to be associated with an event of this nature, especially since it involved children. “The little children of today are the adults of tomorrow. Pre-school education thus plays a critical role in a child’s psychological growth. It is an internationally accepted fact that a child’s formative years are his/her pre-school years from age 01 to 05. Hence the need for greater understanding and awareness that early childhood development plays in a child’s emotional well-being”, he said.

The Janashakthi-sponsored International Children’ Day celebrations in Hatton also included a very colourful art exhibition where the work of nearly 100 pre-school children was on display to a large and appreciative audience at the Hatton Dick-Oya Urban Council premises. Every participant was also given a certificate.

Extending its patronage to the people of Hatton, Janashakthi also sponsored a well-patronised tree planting campaign at the Hatton Children’s Park, while also installing road signage and road names in the Hatton town.

Chairman Hatton Dick-Oya Urban Council Dr. Allagamuthu Nanda Kumar thanked JIC for its multi-faceted involvement in Hatton and said that the road signage and road names project would not only be of tremendous use to local inhabitants, but also to the hundreds of passing pilgrims and foreign tourists to Sri Pada.
