(Chairman) |
|
A highly respected business leader who holds key
positions on the Boards of several major companies. He
is presently the Chairman and CEO of C.W. Mackie PLC,
Director of Maersk Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd and Managing Director
of the Ceylon Trading Co. Ltd. Currently, he is also the
Chairman of The Sri Lanka Society of Rubber Industry
and a past Chairman of the Colombo Rubber Traders’
Association and the Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council. A former
Member of the Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce and Chairman of the Chamber’s Advisory
Council. He is also an Honorary Member of the Colombo
Tea Traders’ Association and President and Trustee of
the Singhalese Sports Club. He was a former Advisor
to the Ministry of Ports & Shipping and has served as a
Consultant on Sea Transport at UN-ESCAP in Bangkok. |

|
Instrumental in founding Janashakthi Insurance, he
counts more than 55 years in the insurance industry,
contributing immensely to the development of the
industry in Sri Lanka as an active member of numerous
industry related forums and committees. He also played
a key role in setting up several reputed insurance
companies and has been involved in their management
as well. An outstanding sportsman, having represented
the country at cricket and hockey, he served as the
Manager of the National Cricket Team on many occasions. |

Prakash Schaffter -(Managing Director) |
|
Appointed as Managing Director of the Company in
September 2006, he is entrusted with the task of leading
Janashakthi into the future. He is a Fellow of the Chartered
Insurance Institute and counts industry experience
of over two decades complemented by a thorough
knowledge of insurance practice in several countries.
He possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science
from the University of London and an MBA from the
University of Cambridge. He is a Member of the Executive
Committee of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka
(IASL). |

Having played a pivotal role in the Company’s
progress from inception, his initial appointment as
Deputy General Manager Finance and Administration
in 1995 led to a subsequent promotion three years later
to General Manager. In 1998 he furthered his career on
being appointed Director/General Manager prior to
his current appointment as Managing Director. |
|
He has
played cricket at a high level, having represented both
Cambridge University and London University. He was also
a Member of the Interim Committee which governed Sri
Lanka Cricket a few years ago. He is the President of the
Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club, which he has served
as a Committee Member since 1992. |

|
An eminent business leader who has been at the helm
of a number of companies, he is currently Chairman
Emeritus of Nestle Lanka PLC, Chairman of Lion Brewery
PLC, Ceylon Brewery PLC and Union Residencies (Pvt) Ltd.
He serves on the Boards of Hunter & Co Ltd, East India
Retailing (Pvt) Ltd, Lanka Canneries, Health & Co Ltd and
as Trustee of Joseph Frazer Memorial Hospital. He also
serves as a Member of the Monetary Policy Committee
of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, also the President of the
Swiss Business Circle of Colombo and Vice President Baur
Asia. |

Manjula Mathews
-Director |
|
With over two decades of experience in Finance,
Marketing and General Management, both in Sri Lanka
and the United Kingdom, she is currently the Managing
Director of the listed entity Dunamis Capital PLC. Prior
to taking up her current appointment, she served as
the Finance Director of Janashakthi Insurance PLC., and
as the Managing Director of The Montessori Workshop
(Pvt) Ltd - an export company, which now comes under
the umbrella of the Dunamis group. She is a Fellow
Member of the Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants (UK) and holds a Masters Degree in Business
Administration from the University of Cambridge, UK. She
also serves as an Executive Director on the boards of First
Capital Holdings PLC and Kelsey Developments PLC. |

Ramesh Schaffter
-Director |
|
A Fellow member and Former Council Member of the
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Sri Lanka
and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of
Marketing. Ramesh is a versatile personality who has over
20 years experience in Finance and Marketing. He has
served as a secretary to the Board since the inception of
the company in 1994 and was appointed to the Board in
2004. He has served on the Boards of several public listed
and unlisted companies as well as being the incumbent
Treasurer of Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, an NGO
engaged in providing housing for low income families. |

Deshamanya Dr. Nihal Jinasena
-Director |
|
Dr. Nihal Jinasena is an eminent industrialist and is the
Chairman of the L. M. Jinasena Group of Companies, as
well as Chairman of Loadstar (Pvt) Limited, which is the
largest export company in Sri Lanka. He has served as a
member of the Securities and Exchange Commission and
as a member of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka. He has
been the Chairman of DFCC Bank and DFCC Vardhana
Bank. He is a member of the National Research Council. |

He holds a B.Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering and
an Honorary Doctorate from Loughborough University,
UK. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the
Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, and a Fellow of the
Institution of Engineers of the UK. |
|
He was honoured with the prestigious national title of
‘Deshamanya’. |
|
He is Chairman of The Appeal for Children Committee
of Ceylon. A keen sportsman, he has been the Sri Lanka
Champion in Yachting and in Motor Racing, and has
captained Sri Lanka’s national team in these two sports. |

Eardley Perera-Director |
|
A Chartered Marketer and Graduate of the Chartered
Institute of Marketing, UK. He has undergone
management training in Sweden, UK, South Korea, the
Philippines and Singapore. Currently, he is the Non-
Executive Chairman of M&E (Pvt) Ltd and a Director of
Keells Food Products PLC, Odel PLC, Sting Consultants
(Pvt) Ltd., Superbrands Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and Brand Finance
Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. He is a member on the Board of Study
of the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University
of Sri Jayewardenepura (PIM), and is actively engaged in
management education and consultancy. |

Anushya Coomaraswamy-Director |
|
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants UK and the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Sri Lanka, her career spans over 20 years
in senior management in the private sector, notably as
Group Finance Director of John Keells Holdings from
1994-2002. Her resume counts positions of Advisor to
the Ministry of Finance, Chairperson of the Public Utilities
Commission and Member of the Public Enterprise
Reform Commission. She also serves in the capacity of
Independent Director on the Board of Printcare PLC and is
a member of the Urgent Issues Task Force of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. |
