He is the Chairman of The
Sri Lanka Society of Rubber
Industries and a past Chairman
of the Colombo Rubber Traders’
Association. A former Member
of the Committee of the Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce and
Chairman of the Chamber’s
Advisory Council. He is a
honourary Member of the Colombo
Tea Traders’ Association and
President and Trustee of the
Singhalese Sports Club. |

He was a former Advisor to the
Ministry of Ports & Shipping and
has served as a Consultant on
sea transport at UN-ESCAP in
Bangkok. |

|
Instrumental in the founding of the
Company, he counts more than
fifty-five years in the insurance
industry, contributing immensely to
the development of the industry in
Sri Lanka as an active member of
numerous industry related forums
and committees. |
|
He also played a key role in setting
up several renowned insurance
companies, and has served on the
management of those companies
as well. |
|
An outstanding sportsman, having
represented the country at cricket
and hockey, he served as the
Manager of the National Cricket
Team on many occasions and
continues his association with
sports as President of the Tamil
Union Cricket and Athletic Club. |

Prakash Schaffter -(Managing Director) |
|
Appointed as Managing Director
of the Company in September
2006, he is now entrusted with the
task of leading Janashakthi into
the future. He is a Fellow of the
Chartered Insurance Institute and
counts industry experience of over
two decades complemented by a
thorough knowledge of insurance
practices in several countries. He
possesses a Bachelor’s Degree
in Political Science from the
University of London and an MBA
from the University of Cambridge.
He is a Member of the Executive
Committee of the Insurance
Association of Sri Lanka (IASL). |

Having played a pivotal role in
the Company’s progress from
inception, his initial appointment as
Deputy General Manager Finance
and Administration in 1995 led
to a subsequent promotion three
years later to General Manager. In
1998, he furthered his career on
being appointed Director/ General
Manager prior to his current
appointment as Managing Director. |
|
He has made a significant
contribution to cricket, and was
also a Member of the Interim
Committee which governed Sri
Lanka Cricket a few years ago. He
is the Honorary General Secretary
of the Tamil Union Cricket &
Athletic Club, which he has served
as a Committee Member since
1992. |

|
An
eminent business leader who has been at the helm
of a number of companies, he is currently
Chairman Emeritus of Nestle Lanka Ltd and
Chairman of Lion Brewery Ceylon Ltd, and Union
Residencies (Pvt) Ltd. |

Currently serving on the Boards of Belvoir
Education Foundation, Hunter & Co Ltd, East
India (Pvt) Ltd, and Joseph Frazer Memorial
Hospital. He serves as an Advisor to the
Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of
Sri Lanka, a member of the Legal and Taxation
Cluster of the NCED of the Ministry of Finance
and also the President of the Swiss Business
Circle of Colombo. |

Manjula Mathews

|
With a notable 18 years experience
in finance and marketing both in
Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom,
she is currently the Managing
Director of the listed conglomerate
Kshatriya Holdings PLC . |
|
Prior to taking up her current
appointment, she served as the
Finance Director of Janashakthi
Insurance Company Ltd and as
the Managing Director of The
Montessori Workshop (Pvt) Ltd,-
an export-oriented company,
which now comes under the
umbrella of the Kshatriya Group of
Companies. |
|
She is an Associate Member of the
Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants (UK) and holds
a Masters Degree in Business
Administration from the University
of Cambridge, UK. |

Ramesh Schaffter
-Director |
|
Associated with the company
since its inception and with over
20 years experience in finance
and marketing, he was appointed
Secretary to the Board in 1994 and
subsequently took a seat as a fully
fledged member of the Board in
2004. |

An Associate Member of the
Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants UK, also serves
on the Board of several group
companies. He has served as
a Council Member of CIMA, Sri
Lanka. |

Deshamanya Dr. Nihal Jinasena
-Director |
|
Dr. Nihal Jinasena, 68 years, is an
eminent industrialist and is the Chairman /
Managing Director of the Jinasena Group
of Companies. This family owned Group
of 22 companies, has more than 7,500
employees and in the financial year ended
31st March 2008, it achieved a turnover
in excess of Rs. 36 Billion. The Group has
within it, Loadstar (Pvt) Limited, which is
the largest export company in Sri Lanka. |

He was a member of the Securities and
Exchange Commission and a member of
the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka. He is a
member of the Presidential Task Force on
Science and Technology and Presidential
Commission on Trade and Tariffs. He
was the Chairman of DFCC Bank and
DFCC Vardhana Bank. He is a member
of TAFREN, the Task Force to rebuild the
Nation. He is a member of the National
Research Council. |

He received his primary education at
S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia and
has a B. Tech Degree in Mechanical
Engineering and an Honorary Doctorate
from Loughborough University, UK. He
is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of
the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and
a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers
of the UK. He received the prestigious
National Award of ‘Deshamanya’. He
is Chairman of The Appeal for Children
Committee of Ceylon, an NGO assisting
malnourished children. |

A keen sportsman, he has been the Sri
Lanka Champion in Yachting and in Motor
Racing, and has captained the Sri Lanka
Team in these two sports. He set up and
is the Commodore of the Ruhunu Sailing
Association, which introduces sons of
fishermen to the sport yachting. |

|
A Chartered Marketer and
Graduate of the Chartered Institute
of Marketing, he has also had
management training in Sweden,
U.K., South Korea, the Philippines
and Singapore. |

Currently the Non Executive
Chairman of M & E (Pvt) Ltd
and a Director of Keells Food
Products PLC, Sting Consultants,
Superbrands Sri Lanka (Pvt) and
BRAND. He also serves as a
member on the Board of Study
of the Postgraduate Institute of
Management, University of Sri
Jayawardenepura. |

Anushya Coomaraswamy-Director |
|
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute
of Management Accountants UK
and the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Sri Lanka, her work
experience counts over 20 years
in senior management experience
in the private sector, notably from
1994 to 2002 as Group Finance
Director of John Keells Holdings. |
|
Her portfolio also includes the
position of Advisor to the Ministry
of Finance, Chairperson of the
Public Utilities Commission and a
member of the Public Enterprise
Reform Commission. She currently
works as a freelance consultant
and is also a member of the
Urgent Issues Task Force of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Sri Lanka and the Taxation
Subcommittee of the Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce. |
